Indiana Central Canal
Originally planned to connect the Wabash & Erie Canal at Peru, Indiana through Downtown Indianapolis and then to Evansville, only two sections were completed: a short section between Broad Ripple (Northern Indianapolis) to Waverly, IN (Morgan County, IN) and the section from Newberry, IN to Evansville, IN. Eventually the Central Canal was completed in 1853, from Evansville to Point Commerce (Worthington) as a part of what became known as the Wabash & Erie Canal.
